Welcome TUGs members and all uke enthusiasts!

Welcome to the official web site of the Tuggeranong Ukulele Group (Inc)

(TUGs for short).

TUGs is a family friendly club that meets to play, sing, socialise and have fun at our uke sessions, group events and performances throughout the Canberra region. Uniquely, we play in a Stage Band setting, with our ukuleles being complemented with Bass Guitar, mixed Percussion and Harmonica and Tin Whistle.

We play many genres of music, ranging from 50’s and 60’s Rock and Roll through to Pop and Blues. We hope all TUGs members will contribute to the enjoyment of all, and will be able to join in our activities as their time permits.  We play, sing and enjoy ourselves.

Becoming a member of TUGs is easy. Interested persons should attend one of our regular sessions which are held at the Rainbow Room at the Canberra Southern Cross Club, Corinna Street, Woden. See our ‘Events’ page for details of our 2019 session dates.

Then, all you need to do is see our friendly Doorperson to join TUGS and to then start receiving our regular Ukulelemails in which all club news including upcoming performance gigs and playlists, songs for rehearsals, and social events etc. are advised.

We have a new set of 6 Beginner Classes commencing 7 July at a cost of $80.  Dates are 7 and 21 July, 4 and 18 August, 1 and 15 September and run from 10.45am to 12.00pm, the class is limited to a maximum of 8. Course content will include an Introduction to the Ukulele Approach to Practice, Using the Video and Audio, Tuning, Holding the Ukulele, Using the Pick, Left Hand Technique, Parts of the Ukulele, The Rudiments of Music, Chord Diagrams, Rhythm Symbols, Strumming Patterns and several easy songs in a variety of styles, including Pop, Rock, Blues and Swing. The Beginner Ukulele Book is included in the fee.  Our contact for registrations and/or questions is Doreen on doreen.robinson@homemail.com.au.

We extend an invitation to all visiting ukesters to visit us if you are in Canberra. You can be assured of a warm welcome and we’ll loan you our music so you can fully join in our sessions.

Our rehearsals are the first and third Sunday of each month.  Where a month contains five Sundays we still only meet on the first and third Sunday of each month. Our rehearsals for 2019 began on 3 February.

After our Beginner Classes over the next 3 months, at 12.30pm we will have a strumming workshop to improve our strumming skills followed by our First Session of a Group Strum-A-Long 1.30pm to 2.15pm (Easy 1, 2, 3, 4 chord songs);  Afternoon Tea 2.15pm to 2.45pm and our Second Session – Group Strum-A-Long or Performance Practice 2.45pm to 3.25pm. All our meetings for 2019 are on the website at Local Uke Events. Come and check us out!

Happy Ukeing!

  1. Just thought that I’d like to say something about TUGs’ inclusive atmosphere and how much I appreciate the way in which I have been welcomed into the club. It is a breath of fresh air and I highly recommend other players that I know from elsewhere to take part in TUGs’ meetings.
    Thank you for the inclusion.
