Welcome TUGs members and all uke enthusiasts!

Welcome to the official web site of the Tuggeranong Ukulele Group (Inc)

(TUGs for short).

TUGs is a family friendly club that meets to play, sing, socialise and have fun at our uke sessions, group events and performances throughout the Canberra region. Uniquely, we play in a Stage Band setting, with our ukuleles being complemented with Bass Guitar, mixed Percussion and Harmonica and Tin Whistle.

We play many genres of music, ranging from 50’s and 60’s Rock and Roll through to Pop and Blues. We hope all TUGs members will contribute to the enjoyment of all, and will be able to join in our activities as their time permits.  We play, sing and enjoy ourselves.

THE COMMENCEMENT OF REHEARSALS FOR 2022 HAS BEEN DELAYED UNTIL THE COVID SITUATION BECOMES CLEARER AND SAFER. CURRENTLY WE WOULD BE REQUIRED TO WEAR MASKS WITHIN THE CLUB ENVIRONMENT.

Ukulelemail, the member’s communication, will give details of dates of rehearsals and songs to practise prior to rehearsals.  It is hoped that once restrictions ease our rehearsals will be on the first and third Friday of the month and on the second Sunday of the month.  The venue will be either:  the Southern Cross Club, Tuggeranong, upstairs in the Dining Room, Cnr Pitman and Howell Streets, Greenway;  or the Southern Cross Club, Woden, Corinna Street, Woden. There is underground parking at the Clubs at both Tuggeranong and Woden.  Ukulelemail will contain venue details as well as song list required.

Our friendly Doorperson will welcome new members who wish to join TUGS and then start receiving our regular Ukulelemails in which all club news including upcoming performance gigs and playlists, songs for rehearsals, and social events etc. are advised.

We extend an invitation to all visiting ukesters to visit us if you are in Canberra. You can be assured of a warm welcome and we’ll loan you our music so you can fully join in our sessions.

Our Friday sessions run as follows:

12.15pm – Doors Open for set up;

1.15pm – 2.00pm – Session One – Group Strum-a-Long;

2.00pm – 2.20pm – Interval;

2.20pm – 3.30pm – Session Two – Group Strum-a-Long

3.30pm – Pack Down;  Social get together downstairs, everyone welcome

Sunday sessions will begin at 2.00pm and finish at 4.00pm.  Doors will be open at 1.30pm

Happy Ukeing!

  1. Just thought that I’d like to say something about TUGs’ inclusive atmosphere and how much I appreciate the way in which I have been welcomed into the club. It is a breath of fresh air and I highly recommend other players that I know from elsewhere to take part in TUGs’ meetings.
    Thank you for the inclusion.

  2. Hi I am new to Canberra and play a ukulele for a few years now. My forte is percussion playing in various bands. Was wondering when you meet and where

    • Hi Neville – we have Friday rehearsals coming up 1st and 22 April at the Southern Cross Club in Corinna Street Woden (Phillip) from 1 to 3.30pm downstairs in the Rainbow Room. We also have a Sunday session which is acoustic on 10 April at the same venue. Our members will have been sent the song list prior to the rehearsal so there should be someone who can share their iPad/printed music with you. I hope to be at the April rehearsals so I can watch out for you. Judy Tunningley – Treasurer
